Nya Li Ah Hta was established in 2000. It is located in the Mae Ramat area about 30 km north of Mae Sot, very near the river Moei, which signs the border with Burma/Myanmar. In the past, Nya Li Ah Hta was surrounded by trees, and it was possible to reach this school only by boat. However, because of the agricultural development, the forest was replaced by extensive farmland. This middle-size school has survived and witnessed many changes along the years, passing from a time where only Karen lived here to the present time where the Thai presence is becoming more and more visible.
The current headmistress, Julia, has seen the school grow from a small house with 30 children to the actual size school with more than 100 students. All teachers live in houses near the school. School buildings are basic, but very tidy and clean. Children here seem to be always happy.
Nya Li Ah Hta has a boarding house with 34 boarding students in this year. All families of the boarding children live across the border and they have sent the children here for safety reasons and because education inside Burma is very expensive.
