Pyo Khin is a primary school that teaches Kindergarten to Grade 5. It is located near the center of Mae Sot in a poorer area of the Muslim’s district.
It provides students with an education of quality.. The school was founded in 1999 with 38 students. The students learn Mathematics, Geography, History, Thai, English and Burmese.
Most of students are Islamic and most of their parents work as migrant labourers, employed on a day-to-day basis. Teachers are both Muslim and Buddhist. They are very committed to the students, even if in the past years funding has been challenging.
Pyo Khin has an active and committed Parent Teachers’ Association, allowing the parents and teachers to meet quarterly and discuss students and school development.
Pyo Khin’s compound is very small and children have not much space to run around. Their current playground is very narrow. One very interesting and beneficial project would be to offer a larger area to play in.
Since last year, a small Canadian organisation sends a volunteer to teach English and gives a small amount of money to be used at the head-master’s discretion.
