Star Flower – Special Care

In partnership with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and World Education Thailand, Star Flower opened in June 2009 to provide for the needs of migrant children with special educational needs.

It is a special school for the children who are not able to speak and walk. Most of the children are affected by Cerebral Palsy, but there are also children with autism, learning difficulties and other various problems.

Every morning, the driver goes to pick up the students one by one around Mae Sot, Mae Pa and Bwe K’Lar areas. They arrive to school about 10am, and they are divided in small groups to play and learn. The school offers a snack and lunch and in the afternoon there are various games and singing.

Every Thursday, some of the teachers do home visits for the many children with disabilities who cannot come to school.

Parents are invited to joins some sessions, to learn new skills which will help them to look after their children.

The school offers the parents and grandparents respite from the heavy duty of caring for their children in very basic living conditions and stimulate the children to learn and interact in a loving environment.
