Prahita Htoo Learning Centre was founded in November, 2011 by Sayar U Htein Linn and village leader of Moo Sik San with 4 teachers (including the principal) and 180 students. It is located at Moo13, Ampur Phop Phra, Tak district, 48 kilometers from Mae Sot. The school joined BMWEC in 2013 as one of its associated learning centres. Prahita Htoo offers the new Myanmar curriculum taught in Burmese language as well as Thai non-formal education courses. Students who attend the school are of Burman, Karen and Muslim ethnicities from Myanmar. Their parents are mostly migrant agriculture workers. Prahita Htoo has a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) made up of 12 people and led by U Htein Linn.
The school has 2 buildings, one that is half wood and half cement and another made entirely of cement. Both are rented and each has 3 classrooms, each with a capacity of about 35 students. The school also has 2 toilets. It has no playground but does have enough space for children to gather in the school compound.
During the Covid pandemic, Prahita Htoo has provided Home-Based Learning activities, and GLOBAL Action has provided funding for teachers’ salaries (20,000 baht). Stationery, materials, curriculum and textbooks are provided by BMWEC.
