The Light Asean Myanmar Boarding House

The Light Asean Myanmar Children’s Home

The Light Asean Children’s Home & Learning Center was established in 2011 as The Light Asian Myanmar Learning Center, initially as a mobile classroom in Umphang and other parts of the region. At that time, there were over 30 children and only one teacher. Over time, more children joined, and the center grew. Most of the children in the area are of Karen ethnicity.

The center applied to be a part of BMWEC and obtained a recognized signboard from the Migrant Educational Coordination Center (MECC) in the Tak region in 2013. In February 2015, 2 classrooms were constructed, and in 2016, 2 more classrooms were added and the center was expanded. The center uses the Myanmar Curriculum for students and also teaches basic Thai language.

Since 2023, the Asean Light Myanmar has been operating as a boarding house ,and now there are a total of 102 children in the home. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 study at Hsa Tu Gaw Learning Center, while Grade 5 and above students attend Hsa Thoo Lei Learning Center in the 2024 – 2025 academic year. The boarding house is in a close partnership with and supported by Hsa Thoo Lei High School and has 14 teachers and staff members who provide care and education for the children with love and a serving heart.
