Morning Glory 2

  1. School Background

Morning Glory (2) middle school was established in the 2018-2019 school year by teacher Naw Htoo Htoo (Grace and Mercy Foundation). It started out with Mr. Van Taung Htan as principal and offered classes from Nursery to Grade 8, with 13 teachers (2 males, 11 females) and 4 staff. Mr. Van Taung Htan stepped down in the 2019-2020 school year and Mrs. Wut Yee Htoo took the mantle of principal.

And during that school year, the school taught not only the official curriculum in Myanmar from Nursery to Grade 8, it also expanded to offer non-formal vocational education classes. It also took part in official state exams for Grade 4 and Grade 8 in Myanmar arranged by BMWEC, along with non-formal vocational education examinations hosted by Thai officials. The school has an 80% passing rate and is thus considered moderately successful.

The school later received the assistance of BMWEC through which the teachers managed to get into contact with a benefactor who had connections with Christian missionaries abroad. All things went well for the teachers and the students during the two school years from 2018 to 2020. However, after these two years, the benefactor wanted to shift their focus from providing education for migrant students with no official documents to establishing a non-formal vocational education training center instead. So, the teachers and students had to relocate somewhere else to continue their educational activities. Currently, with the support of Building Trust International, they already got new school buildings for the students to learn. They still need the funding for the land rent to extend the land rent contract.

Students and teachers of Morning Glory (2) are mostly Buddhists and Christians. The most common language spoken among each other is Burmese, Karen, and Thai. It has a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and they work diligently with local Thai authorities for the betterment of the school.

The school also works together with Thai community leaders, and security and health officials to ensure a safe learning environment for the students and advance the status of the school. Whenever there are public holidays and national events the school hosts festivals and events for the students.

They have enough classrooms for the students but they still need desks and chairs for the students to learn. They have four toilets for all students. The space around the school is needed to level up to use as the playground. If the number of students increased in the future, they planned to use the upstairs as the classrooms but they need to build the walls and ceiling so it will safe for students to learn in the classrooms. The school does not have electricity until now. They have to depend on others for electricity.
