- School Background

Kwel Ka Baung (KKB) Karen National School had been found by a small group of Karen teachers and parents also called Displaced Karen Fellowship (DKF) in 1990. The school was first located in Mae Sot city, Thailand and started with 80 displaced migrant students and 7 teachers. This migrant school was supported by some NGOs such as Help without Frontiers (HWF) and Burmese Migrant Worker Education Committee (BMWEC). However, in 2014-2015 academic year and following years, KKB did not get any major supports from any organizations and the school faced many difficulties to continue running the school.
Kwe Ka Baung Learning Centre did not have donor since 2019 and it made the school struggled a lot during the pandemic period. It have been 4 years that the school have not received any donation from other. Kwe Ka Baung provides education to migrant children and displaced children who arrived with their families from the neighboring Karen state, recent scenario of civil conflict, cross the Thai-Burma Border.
During Covid-19 period, Kwe Ka Baung provided the Home Based Learning classes to the students. So they went to the community to teach the students with HBL methods. The students who lived near the school, teachers arranged the class for them. It was very challenges for school and teachers to provide the HBL to the students when the school did not have donor for teacher salaries and school operation cost.
In this 2024 – 2025 academic year, the numbers of the students are 524 students and 31 teachers. Kwe Ka Baung schooling is supporting and educating migrant children in Karen Community of Mae Sot on the Thai-Burma border.
Due to the school did not have donor, teachers have no monthly payment so the teachers have to teach as the volunteer. School also need the student’s transportation because most of the students stay far away from the school so it is a big challenges for the students to reach to the school. As a result Kwe Ka Baung Learn Centre would like to propose the funding for the teacher’s salaries, school operations, school maintenance, one new boarding house and transportation, in order to run and manage the school smoothly. Without the support, it would be very difficult for school to manage and continue running the school. Without your help, it is impossible for the school to survive.
